San Jose bar will host Irish Coffee Competition on Tuesday

With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, Five Points bar in downtown San Jose is bringing back its Irish Coffee Contest on Tuesday, March 8.
The caffeinated competition first took place in 2018 and returned in 2019 before being shelved for two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is a bartending contest with a twist because the “bartenders” aren’t from bars at all, but some of San Jose’s favorite coffeehouses: Academic Coffee, Chromatic Coffee, Nirvana Soul, Roy’s Station and Voyager. They’ll be creating their own combinations of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey, coffee and cream for the judges.A portion of the proceeds is benefitting the San Jose Jazz Aid Fund to help musicians still reeling from the pandemic.
The brewing gets started at 7 p.m. at 160 W. Santa Clara St., and the public is invited. Attendees may purchase an Irish coffee or nitro Irish coffee from the Five Points bar; both of those will also be available on St. Patrick’s Day.
